ATLANTA, G.A. ---  The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced Tuesday that Allen University's Jhyrique Mangum has been voted as the SIAC Male Field Athlete of the Week. This is Mangum's first weekly honor of the season.

Mangum, a junior from Swansea, South Carolina native, won his third outdoor event of the season Saturday after taking the top spot in the shot put at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic. With a distance of 14.75m, not only did Mangum finish ahead of a field of NCAA Division I and II competitors, but he also set a new outdoor season-best for himself. In addition to his efforts in the shot put, Mangum also finished fourth in the discus throw. 

"Jhyrique is a very dependable athlete with a lot of integrity," said Allen Interim Head Track and Field Coach Orinthal Striggles. "He does the hard work it takes to get to where he needs to be without the need for oversight, so it doesn't come as a surprise that consistently does very well.

After winning the first place medal in the shot put at the SIAC Indoor Championships on February 20, 2025, Mangum will look to have similar success at the SIAC Outdoor Championships beginning Wednesday, April 23. The three-day event will be hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
