ORANGEBURG, S.C. --- In their final meet ahead of the SIAC Outdoor Championships, the Allen University men's track and field team's performances at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic Saturday was highlighted by
Jhyrique Mangum's win in the shot put. The single day event was hosted by South Carolina State University.
Mangum, a junior from Swansea, South Carolina, threw for a distance of 14.75m and finished ahead of a field of NCAA Division I and II competitors. This victory marks Mangum's third first place finish in an outdoor event this season, and serves as a new outdoor season-best distance for him. Mangum also finished fourth in the discus throw.
In addition to Mangum's strong performance, freshman
Jamarri Norman also added another top-3 finish to bring his combined indoor and outdoor season total to 12. With a distance of 6.83m, Norman placed third in the long jump. He also finished ninth in the high jump at a height of 1.85m.
Allen will be back in action beginning Wednesday, April 23 at the SIAC Outdoor Championships. The three-day event will be hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
