Myers and Mangum Lead Men's Track at Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Allen University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the D-2 Southern Wesleyan "Gotta Run Invitational" last weekend in Central, SC in the non team-scored event. 

Sprinters Zalyn Myers and Montrell White led the Track team on Saturday as they each placed in the top 10 of the men's 100-meter dash. Myers finished 5th in 10.72 seconds and White was 7th in 10.78 in the 60-man field. Sophomore Joshua Burley also finished 28th in a time of 11.36 seconds. Myers and White were 2nd and third among D-2 sprinters as well.

Senior Daquan Brock then placed 25th in the 400 Meters in 54.1 seconds while he also finished 39th in the 800 Meters in a time of 2:18.7 of the 50-man field. Brock was also 4th in his 800 Sectional as well.
In the 400-meter Hurdles, freshman Jabari Moss had a standout race finishing 5th overall in 1:01 while he won his section as well.

The 4x100 Meter Relay team then finished 6th overall with a time of 42.78 seconds. The team consisting of Brock, White, Burley, and Myers were just 0.7 seconds off the winning time from N. Greenville.

Freshman Jhyrique Mangum then led the Jackets in the Field events finishing 2nd overall in the Shot Put with a mark of 14.1 meters (46.5 ft) and only .16 off the top throw. Junior DeAngelo Bright also competed in the shot put and placed 22nd with a throw of nearly 9 meters (29.5 ft). Mangum, who won his discus flight, then came back for the Discus Throw and finished 9th with a mark of 36 meters (118 ft) while senior teammate Isaiah Milhouse finished in 11th at 34 meters. Bright also competed and came in 15th place at 32.1 meters.
Junior Sheldon Brown led Allen in the Hammer Throw placing 12th (6th among D-2) at 35.2 meters (115 ft) while Milhouse was 16th with a throw of nearly 29 meters (94 ft).
Finally, in the Javelin Throw, junior Jahmaryz Davis and freshman CeCe Bailey led the Jackets with stellar results finishing 3rd and 4th overall in the 20-man field. Davis threw a mark of 44.9 meters while Bailey's throw landed at 43 meters. Both throws were over 140 feet long.

The Yellow Jackets were set to be competing on Saturday at the USC Gamecock Outdoor Invitational but it has since been canceled due to rain and poor weather coming in this weekend. Allen will now enjoy the Easter Break and prepare for the Electric City Invite at Anderson Univ in Anderson, SC on April 14-15.
