CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Allen University Men's track and field team placed 5th overall at the D-1 and D-2 Charleston Southern Invitational last Friday. AU received quality results from its sprinters, relay teams and Hurdlers. Allen finished 4th among Div. II schools finishing ahead of D-1 College of Charleston with 50 points.
Freshman
Zalyn Myers and junior
Montrell White led the Yellow Jackets in the 100 meters placing 1st and 2nd overall for 18 team points. Myers win the race with a time of 10.57 seconds while White finished right behind in 10.59. Sophomore Joshua Burley also competed and finished 9th in 11.2 seconds.
Then in the 400 meters, senior
Daquan Brock led Allen by placing 14th out of 20 with a time of 55 seconds while sophomore
Edmond Whitaker came in right behind in 16th at 59.6 seconds.
Freshman
Jabari Moss led the Hurdlers placing 3rd overall in the 400 Meter Hurdles crossing the line in 1 minute flat while the 4x100 Meter Relay team placed 2nd as well finishing only a half second behind the winning time of Claflin. The team consisting of Myers, White, Burley and
Reggie Jones Jr. ran a time of 42.3 seconds while CU's was 41.9.
In te field events, Myers and Burley both competed in the Long Jump and finished 9th and 10th overall with marks of 5.8 (19 feet) and 5.3 meters respectively.
Allen then dominated the Discus Throw placing two throwers in the top four as freshman Jhryrique Mangum finished 2nd with a mark of 42.7 meters while senior
Isaiah Milhouse was 4th in 36.4 meters. Sophomore
Preston Conner also competed with a throw of 23 meters to place 8th.
In the Hammer Throw, Allen was led by Milhouse placing 5th with a mark of 32.6 meters (107 feet) while Mangum came in 7th at 30.4 meters. AU then had 6 throwers compete in the Javelin throw led by
Cecilius Bailey placing 8th out of 20 with a mark of 44.5 meters (145 feet) while junior
Sheldon Brown was right behind in 40 meters.
The men will next return to action on March 31 and April 1 when they take part in the Southern Wesleyan Invite.
