MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Allen University men's track and field team had a terrific performance last weekend at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. The men finished 18th overall out of 24 teams in the field with 12 points.
Freshman sprinter
Zalyn Myers led the Yellow Jackets with an impressive time in the 100 meter semifinals finishing 7th in 10.86 seconds, just .20 off the top time. He then advanced to the finals, but only got 8th place as his time fell to 11.36 seconds but still had a great day. Fellow freshmanÂ
Rolik Jackson also ran in the 100 meters but rn a time of only 11.3 in the prelims and did not qualify for the semifinals.
Myers then ran a stellar time in the
200 meters finishing 7th overall in 22.4 seconds for two team points. Junior
Montrell White also ran a good time in the 200 meters placing 13th out of 60 in 22.8 seconds while teammate Joshua Burley placed 23rd as well in a time of 23.5 seconds. Jackson also finished 31st in 24 seconds as all four Yellow Jackets were in the top half of the 200 results.Â
Senior
Daquan Brock then ran in the
400 meters and placed 25th out of 60 in a time of 54.3 seconds while freshman teammate
Edmund Whitaker made his season debut in the 400 and finished 50th in 1 minute flat. Brock then finished 15th out of 25 in the 800 meters in a time of 2:14.9.
Freshman
Jabari Moss finished 17th in the
400 meter Hurdles in a time of 59.6 seconds while winning his Div. II section also.Â
The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Brock, White, Burley and Myers then finished 3rd out of 10 in the relay in a time of 42.7 seconds for 6 team points finishing just .5 seconds behind a d-2 and NAIAÂ team.
In the field events, Allen was led by White in the
Long Jump as he finished 7th out of 30 with a mark of 6.17 meters (20 feet) for 3 team points while teammate, Myers, finished right behind in 10th at a mark of 5.74 meters (18 feet).
In the Shot Put, Allen was led by junior
Sheldon Brown as he placed 12th out of 42 with a mark of 12.6 meters (41 feet) while freshman
Jhyrique Mangum was 16th in 12.2 meters. Senior
Isaiah Milhouse also competed and finished 21st with a mark of 11.7 meters (38.5 feet) while sophomore
Preston Conner came in 26th at 11 meters while also winning his flight.
In the Discus Throw, Milhouse led the way finishing 14th out of 50 at 37.4 meters (122 feet) while Brown came in 18th with a throw of 34.5 meters (113 feet). Junior
DeAngelo Bright also competed in the Discus placing 25th with a mark of nearly 32 meters (104 feet).
Brown then led Allen in the
Hammer Throw placing 20th out of 40 with a throw of 32.4 meters while Milhouse was 28th at 29.9 meters (98 feet). Bright also competed placing 31st at 28.5 meters while junior
Jahmaryz Davis made his debut in the Hammer and finished 37th at 19.8 meters.
Freshman
Cecilius Bailey then made his debut in the Javelin placing 22nd out of 50 with a throw of 38.8 meters (127 feet) while Conner also competed placing 37th with a throw of 31.4 meters.
The men and women will next compete in Charleston Friday at 11 AM in the Charleston Southern Invitational.
