Lynchburg, VA - The Allen University men's track and field team competed at the Liberty University Open at the Liberty-Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, VA this past Saturday.
In the men's sprinting events, Allen was led by freshman
Zalyn Myers in the
60 meter finals as he finished third overall in 7 seconds coming in ahead of 20 other sprinters. Fellow sprinters, junior
Montrell White and sophomore
Edmond Whitaker also competed in the 60 meters but did not qualify for the finals. White ran a quality time of 7.2 seconds to place 9th in the qualifiers while Whitaker came across in 7.7 seconds.
Montrell White then led the way for the Yellow Jackets in the
200 meters placing 21st out of 80 with a time of 23 seconds while Myers came in 29th in 23.2 seconds. Sophomore
Josh Burley also placed 42nd in a time of 23.65 seconds.
Senior
Reggie Jones also led Allen in the
400 meters placing 20th overall in a time of 52.39 seconds while freshman
Jabari Moss came in right behind Jones in 39th place with a time of 54.7 seconds. Fellow freshman
Rolik Jackson placed 50th in 56.36 seconds while junior
Daquan Brock was 56th in 57.2 seconds. Brock also competed in the 800 meters finishing in a time of 2:24.8 to place 51st overall.
Reggie Jones then made his debut in the
60 meter hurdles finishing 8th out of 22 in the prelims in a time of 8.6 seconds before beating that time in the 60 hurdle finals to place 7th in a time of 8.49 seconds.
In the field events,
CeCe Bailey led the Jackets placing 26th out of 37 in the
Long Jump with a mark of 5.69 meters (18.8 feet).
Allen then dominated in the
Shot Put with three athletes finishing in the top 14 led by a third place showing from junior
Sheldon Brown with a throw of 12.27 meters (40 feet). Senior
Isaiah Milhouse then followed by placing 7th with a mark of 11.7 meters (38 feet). Sophomore
Preston Conner also came in 14th with his mark of 11.1 meters (36.5 feet) while Whitaker came in 25th at 9.49 meters (31 feet) .
Brown came back in the Weight Throw to place 16th overall out of 35 with a throw of 11.86 meters (38 feet) while junior
DeAngelo Bright was 28th at 9.9 meters as well.
Jhyrique Mangum and Conner also competed with throws of 8.7 and 7.8 meters respectively.
The men will next finish out their indoor season on Feb. 17 at the USC Indoor Open.
