Men's Track and Field Team Opens Indoor Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Allen University men's track and field team opened their indoor season with a kick-off meet in Winston-Salem on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's meet was the JDL Fast-track Early Bird Invitational.

In Saturday's action, Allen was led in the sprinting events by freshman Zalyn Myers, Josh Burley, and senior Daquan Brock. Myers led all runners in the 60 meter qualifying as he had a time of 7.06 seconds but unfortunately had a false start in the prelims and did not make the 60 meter finals. Burley then finished 23rd in the 60 meters in a time of 7.3 seconds. Brock then ran a time of 25.2 seconds in the 200 meters to place 47th.

Freshmen Cecilius Bailey and Jabari Moss then led AU in the 400 meter race with Bailey finishing 31st in 56.8 seconds while Moss was 35th in 58.2 seconds. Both runners won their respective sections in D-2 qualifying as well.
Brock then came back to run in the 800 meters for the Jackets and placed 12th out of 20 in a time of 2:15 while finishing 4th in his qualifying.

In Saturday's field events, Allen was led by Myers and Bailey in the long jump. Myers ended up placing 18th with a mark of 6.1 meters (20 ft.) while Bailey was 24th with a jump of 5.9 meters.

Allen then had three throwers place in the Shot Put with senior Isaiah Milhouse leading the way with a throw of 11.6 meters to place 16th out of 33. He was followed by freshman Jhyrique Mangum in 18th with a mark of 11.3. meters while senior R'Kevious Barnes followed him in 19th place with a mark of 11 meters (36 feet). Allen then had two more athletes compete in the Weight Throw as junior DeAngelo Bright placed 16th with a throw of 11 meters  while sophomore Preston Conner was 21st at 6.2 meters.

During Sunday's action at the JDL Fast-track, Allen was led by Zalyn Myers again as he placed 17th overall out of 43 in the 200 meters running a tme of 23.6 seconds while his teammate, Daquan Brock finished 31st in 25.1 seconds. The Jackets then had three athletes compete int he 400 meter race with Moss leading the way in 25th place in a time of 56.9 seconds while Bailey and Brock came in right behind him in 27th and 29th place respectively running times of 58.5 and 58.8.

Bailey then stepped up in the field events Sunday to place 27th in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.5 meters (18 feet) before Allen sent four men to the Shot Put. Leading the way was Mangum with a top-10 finish with a throw of 12.3 meters (40 feet) while Milhouse was right behind him in 11th at 12.1 meters. Barnes then placed 17th with a mark of 10.9 meters while Bright finished 20th at 9.8 meters (32 feet).

Bright and Conner also competed in the Weight throw with Bright finishing 11th with a throw of 11.7 meters while Conner was 13th at 8.95 meters.
