ATLANTA, G.A. --- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced Tuesday that for the first time this season,
Measha Jones of the Allen University women's track and field team has been named SIAC Female Field Athlete of the Week.
Jones, a senior from Manning, South Carolina native, recorded a pair of top four finishes Saturday at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic in Orangeburg, S.C., including a win in the long jump. The two-time SIAC champion secured the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 5.55m, placing her ahead of a field of NCAA Division I and II competitors. Jones also placed fourth in the 400 meters.
"Measha demands nothing but the best from herself and her teammates," said Allen Interim Head Track and Field Coach Orinthal Striggles. "What makes her a great athlete is that she is not afraid to step outside of comfort zone to try something new and challenging. The 400 meters is sort of new territory for her, but she has done a phenomenal job at competing in this challenging event."
Her victory Saturday marks the sixth overall win this season for the senior, and the fourth time she has won the long jump. Jones aims to defend her 2024 SIAC Outdoor Championship in the long jump as the conference's 2025 championships begin Wednesday, April 23. The three-day event will be hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
