Allen Women's Track & Field Wins Five Medals at Inaugural SIAC Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, K.Y. --- The Allen University women's track and field team saw five student-athletes win a medal, and four set new personal records, over the course of two days at the inaugural SIAC Indoor Championships. The events were held at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky from February 20-21.

Measha Jones, a senior from Manning, South Carolina, won first place in the long jump at a distance of 5.77m. Jones' performance also recorded the 36th best distance is all of NCAA Division II this season. Her first-place victory marks the second win for Jones in the event against her SIAC competitors, as she also placed first at the 2024 SIAC Outdoor Championships.

Then in the distance medley relay (DMR), the team of Ja'Braisha Lane, Siata Ouattara, Caseyona Hight, and Deborah Boyd ran a time of 15:27.97 to claim a podium finish in third place. It is the first SIAC medal of each of their collegiate careers.

In addition to the medal winners, four new personal records were set by the Yellow Jackets. Amira Belk ran the 60m dash in 8.03 seconds, which was nearly a full tenth of a second improvement on her previous best time of 8.12. In both the 200m preliminaries and finals, Keturah Walker clocked a time of 25.81. Later in the 800m, Lane ran in 2:34.91 for the top mark of her freshman season. Finally in the high jump, Jones leaped a height of 1.45m to finish sixth overall.

The strong showing at the SIAC Indoor Championships concludes Allen's five-meet indoor season. The Yellow Jackets will begin their outdoor season on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at the John-Hunter James Classic hosted on the campus of Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina.
