Box Score JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Allen University Women's Soccer team continues to make strides in their third season as they almost upset rival Edward Waters University on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Allen fell 4-3 in the end, but they almost tied it at the last second as each team traded goals in the last 30 seconds of action. Allen set school history with 3 goals in a match while also it was the slimmest margin in history.
EWU got off to a 1-0 lead 30 minutes into the first half before adding their second goal just seconds before halftime to lead 2-0. Allen then came back strong in the second half outscoring the Lady Tigers 3-2 in the half on just six shots.
In the second stanza, Allen scored back-to-back goals within the first three minutes of the half to tie the match at two. Scoring the first goal was junior forward
Acacia Small on an assist from junior midfielder
Tonie Sledz in the 47th minute. Then, in the 49th minute, junior defender
Rachel Rolle scored off an assist from Small to tie the match.
EWU, however, regained the lead in the 70th minute before extending it to 4-2 in the 89th minute. Then, 12 seconds later in the final minute, freshman forward
Tatyana Machado punched in the third goal off another assist from Small to get Allen within one. AU also had a free kick in the last few seconds off a EWU foul to try and tie the match, but unfortunately came up just short.
It was the most goals and assists in Allen soccer history. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kaiyah Robinson finished making 12 saves on 16 shots playing all 90 minutes. Small finished with 2 goals, 2 assists and 4 shots on the game.
AU, 0-2, will now make the short trip to Newberry at 5 PM on Saturday evening.
