Decatur, GA — Sometimes, the scoreboard only tells half the story.
With just nine players on the field, the Allen University Lady Yellow Jackets showed the heart of a full army, clawing their way to a hard-fought 2–2 draw against a tough Agnes Scott University squad in what Head Coach Charles Haynesworth called "a defining moment of growth" for his young, determined team.
This wasn't just a match. It was a message.
"We didn't make excuses. We made plays," said Coach Haynesworth. "This group is learning how to fight through adversity, and today proved we're taking the right steps forward."
The Rise of Raeny Zuniga
Freshman Raeny Zuniga put on an absolute show under pressure — showcasing her rare versatility and ice-cold poise in big moments.
- Her first goal was a highlight-worthy 1v1 counterattack, leaving the ASU goalkeeper frozen as she slotted in the opener.
- Her second goal came off a sharp assist from fellow freshman Nathalie Gomez, breaking through the back line and firing it home with purpose.
Zuniga's dynamic ability to switch between midfielder, winger, and forward proved impossible to ignore. She didn't just keep Allen alive — she led the charge.
A Game of Drama & Grit
The 2–2 result didn't come without turbulence. An unlucky deflection resulted in an own goal for Allen — a cruel bounce that temporarily swung the momentum toward Agnes Scott.
But in goal, Junior Jaden Keys stood tall, registering 5 key saves and only conceding a single clean goal. Her vocal leadership and composure helped stabilize the team during critical stretches.
Senior Davanye Kight, playing out of multiple roles, was instrumental in transitioning the ball and holding the line defensively. Coach Haynesworth praised her performance as one of the game's anchors — a veteran presence the team needed.
On the back line, freshmen Infiniti Guess and Alyssa Oreskovich played beyond their years — showing incredible discipline, footwork, and situational awareness under relentless pressure.
Bigger Than a Win: A Turning Point in the Season
This might not have been a win on paper, but for the Lady Yellow Jackets, this was a moment of redemption and belief — proof that attention to detail, discipline, and heart can push through any numbers disadvantage.
"This may have been the game that turns our entire season," said Coach Haynesworth. "It showed me — and them — what we're really made of."
Next Up: Columbia International Under the Lights
