MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Allen University women's track and field team had a terrific performance over the weekend at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. The Ladies finished an impressive 12th overall out of 26 teams in the field with 24 points. AU was also 8th overall among D-2 and D-3 teams in the event that D-1 Coastal Carolina won.
Leading the women were freshman
Jasmine Mayes as she placed 5th in the 100 meters opening round with a time of 13.5 seconds while junior
Shakeryah Passmore then topped Mayes' time running a 13 second sprint in the semifinals of the 100 meters to place 17th.
Sophomore
Aisha Patterson then led the Jackets in the
200 meters placing 17th out of 65 with a time of 26.9 seconds while freshman
Kiana Pack finished 31st in 28.3 seconds and fellow freshman
Mikiya Sherman coming in 37th in 28.9 seconds.
Freshman Sprinter
Measha Jones then ran a terrific time in the
400 meters placing third in 1:01.3 to earn 6 team points. She was the top D-2 runner in the event as well.
Junior
Teleah Moorer then placed 15th in the
400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:14.28 while soph teammate
Ayani Taylor placed 22nd in 1:21.
The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of
Aisha Patterson,
Teleah Moorer,
Sha'keryah Passmore,
Measha Jones, then placed an impressive 2nd out of 7 in the team event in a time of 49.2 seconds. Then, the Yellow Jacket's
4x200 meter relay team, consisting of
Moorer, Pack, Patterson, and Jones, placed 4th out of 11 teams with a time of 1:48. The two relay teams combined to score 11 points for Allen in the team standings.
In the field events, Allen was led by sophomore
Kourtney English in the
High Jump with a mark of 1.48 meters (4.5 feet) to place 7th out of 20 while freshman
Measha Jones then finished 9th out of 35 in the
Long jump with a mark of 4.7 meters (15.5 feet). English also had a mark of 3.95 meters (12.5 feet) in the Long Jump to place 31st.
In the Shot Put, freshman
Kaiyah Robinson led the Yellow Jackets with a mark of 8.5 meters to place 35th out of 50 while junior teammates,
Jermisha Moss and
LaRhonda Johnson placed 40th and 43rd respectively. Moss had a mark of 7.8 meters (25.5 feet) while Johnson threw a mark of 7.4 meters (24.5 feet).
Robinson then had a stellar throw in the
Discus placing 6th overall out of 45 with a mark of 32.6 meters (107 feet) while Moss came in right behind her in 13th place with a mark of 29.4 meters. Johnson also placed 37th in the Discus at 19.8 meters as well. Johnson and Moss competed in the Hammer Throw as well placing 30th and 32nd respectively with Johnson throwing a mark of 19.2 meters (62 feet) while Moss threw just 11 meters.
Taylor and Sherman also made their season debuts in the Javelin Throw placing 45th and 46th with Taylor throwing a mark of 13 meters (43 feet) while Sherman managed just 6 meters.
The women will next compete in Charleston on Friday at 11 AM in the CSU Invitational.
