WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Allen University women's indoor track and field team opened their season this past weekend with a pair of events at the JDL Fast Track Kickoff Classic.
Sophomore
Measha Jones led the Lady Jackets finishing 8th overall in the
60 meter dash in a time of 7.9 seconds while freshmen teammates Ty'kira Garrett and
Keturah Walker tied for 13th overall in 8.05 seconds. Freshman
Amira Belk then finished 29th in 8.2 seconds while freshman
Maya Jackson was 40th in 8.6 seconds.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Allen was ed by freshman
Caseyona Hight coming in 32nd place in 10.4 seconds while freshman
Myiah Upshaw was 38th in 11.7 seconds. Allen then had four women compete in the
200 meters with Jones leading the way in 11th place in a time of 26.3 seconds while Walker finished right behind in 18th place in 26.68 seconds. Belk also ran a time of 28.1 seconds to come in 52nd while
Kiara Wilson ran a time of 31.1 seconds.
In the 400 meters, Allen was led by Hight coming in 48th in 1:09 while Upshaw finished 54th in 1:16. Junior
Ayani Taylor then competed in the
600 meters and finished 23rd in 2:09.
In the 800 meter race, freshmen cross country runners
Autumn Clifton and
Siata Ouattara led the Ladies coming in 17th and 24th respectively. Clifton ran a time of 2:39 while Ouattara came across in 3:05 out of 30 runners.
In the Long Jump, Allen was led by Jackson's mark of 4.4 meters to come in 39th while Wilson jumped 4.3 meters. In the shot put, Taylor led Allen with a throw of 8.1 meters to place 42nd while Garrett placed 15th of 30 in the
Triple Jump with a mark of 10.67 meters while her mark on Day two would have put her in 9th place.
Finally, in the
4x400 meter relay, the team of Jones, Clifton, Upshaw, and Hight finished 14th overall in 4:30 and was 8th among D-2 schools.
Then, On Sunday in the Early Bird Invite, Allen was led by freshman sprinter
Amira Belk again in the
60 meter dash as she ran a time of 8.15 seconds to place 22nd overall out of 30 sprinters.
The women then had four runners compete in the
200 meters led by
Keturah Walker finishing 11th overall in a time of 26.7 seconds while
Tykira Garrett then placed 17th in 27.2 seconds. Also placing was Hight in 31st in 28 seconds while Belk was right behind in 35th in 28.2 seconds.
In the
400 meters, Walker again led the way placing 29th of 45 in 1:08 while Jackson was 34th with a time of 1:10. In the
600 meters, Ouattara then placed 15th in 2:12 while Allen had three ladies compete in the
800 meters. Leading the way in the 800 was Clifton in a time of 2:39 to place 17th of 30 while Wilson was next in 26th in 3:03 while Upshaw finished 28th in 3:04.
Finally in the field events on Sunday, Allen was led by Jones in the
Long Jump as she finished 22nd of 47 with a mark of 4.8 meters while
Kiara Wilson then placed 40th of 50 in the
Shot Put with a throw of 7.6 meters.
In the Triple Jump, Allen was led by Jackson as she had a mark of 9.9 meters to place 17th out of 27 jumpers.
The women will next be in action in January when they take part in the USC Gamecock Invitational on Jan. 13 at 9:00 am in Columbia.
