WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Allen University women's track and field team opened their indoor season with a kick-off meet in Winston-Salem, NCÂ last Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's meet was the JDL Fast-track Early Bird Invitational.
Allen was led in the sprints by freshmanÂ
Measha Jones and sophomoreÂ
Sha'keryah Passmore in the 60 meter dash with Passmore placing 20th in 8 seconds while Jones was 24th in 8.1 seconds. then, Passmore also competed in the 200 meters and placed 19th overall out of 47 runners in a time of 27.6 seconds.
In the field events, Jones led the Jackets in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.72 meters (15 ft, 6 in.) to place in a tie for 17th out of 30 jumpers. AU then had two athletes compete in the Shot Put as sophomoreÂ
Jermisha Moss placed 24th with a mark of 8.9 meters (29 ft.) while juniorÂ
LaRhonda Johnson then came in right behind Moss in 26th place with a throw of 8 meters (26 ft.).
On Sunday, Jones also competed in the 200 meters running a time of 27.4 seconds to place 16th overall out of 47 athletes. Jones then continued her day running in the 400 meters and placing an impressive 9th place overall in 1:02 out of 40 runners. She finished just 5 seconds off the leader from Catawba. Jones finally finished her day competing in the Long Jump again and picked up a time of 3.65 meters (12 ft.) to place 33rd.
Johnson then came back Sunday in the shot put and threw a mark of 7.9 meters to place 27th overall.
