FOOTBALL GAMEDAY: ALLEN HOSTS FORT VALLEY STATE AFTER 60 YEARS

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University football team will host Fort Valley State on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Westwood HS in Blythewood, S.C. The game is slated for a 6:00 pm. EST kickoff. 

AU (2-1) enters the game after winning back-to-back contests since the University ignited its football program in 2018 after more than a decade. The Yellow Jackets picked up wins against Johnson C. Smith (20-19) and Livingstone (34-32).

The Yellow Jackets picked up both of its wins this season consecutively after pulling off game-winning drives late in the 4th quarter against Johnson C. Smith and Livingstone. AU has edged its opponents 22-18 in the last frame to pick up the monumental victories.

AU administered an 8-play 55-yard drive to defeat JCSU with :55 seconds left, and against Livingstone with one second left in the game, connected a 55-yard pass with a lateral for a touchdown, before converting a 2-point conversion to complete the comeback effort.

Allen owns an 8-0-2 record against Fort Valley State with the Yellow Jackets defeating FVSU, 19-9, in Columbia, S.C. in 1961 to cap the last meeting on the gridiron. 

A FRESH START TO THE ATTACK
The Yellow Jackets on offense are led by the freshmen ensemble of quarterback David Wright III, running back Beau Herrington and wide receiver Jayden Horace

Wright has completed 52 percent of his passes (49-of-94) for 616 yards (205.3 ypg), six touchdowns, and five interceptions for a passer rating of 117.6.

Herrington spotlights AU's backfield with a team high four touchdowns including a three-touchdown performance in the win against JCSU. He has posted two rushing touchdowns and catching two for a score, including a 77-yard catch-and-run in the win against Livingstone.

Horace has recorded 13 receptions for 205 yards (15.7 avg.) for one touchdown averaging  68.3 receiving yards per game.

Defensive back Diquan Brown tops the defense with 18 tackles (12 solo) and one interception. Linebacker Julius Pearson has chipped in an interception and a sack on the year.

FVSU (1-2) is coming off a back-to-back losses to Florida A&M (34-7) and Lane (27-24) after opening the season against Tuskegee (30-0).

The Wildcats are spearheaded by quarterback Tyrell Jackson. Jackson holds a 120.27 quarterback rating while connecting 66-of-110 pass attempts (60 percent) for 688 yards (229.3 avg.), five touchdowns and four interceptions. Wide receiver Shemar Bridges averages 83.7 yards per game and has hauled in 24 receptions for 251 yards (10.5 avg.) and one touchdown. Antonio Golden leads the Wildcats on defense with 4.5 sacks and 17 tackles (12 solo).
