August 6, 2025 – Atlanta, GA

The Allen University men's basketball program is entering a new era—and four of its newest student-athletes just gave the rest of the HBCU and college basketball world a strong preview of what's to come.

From July 31 to August 2, the seventh annual NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp was held on the campus of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. This prestigious three-day showcase, hosted by the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), brings together top men's basketball talent from HBCUs across the country—including the CIAA, MEAC, SIAC, and SWAC conferences—for a weekend of elite skill development, leadership workshops, and mentorship guided by current and former NBA players.

Among this year's select group of 50 invitees were four new Allen University student-athletes who proudly represented the Yellow Jackets on one of the biggest off-season stages in HBCU basketball.

Meet Allen University's NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp Invitees and New Additions

    •    Blair Crutcher – 6'8" Junior | Chicago, Illinois

Crutcher made an impression with his athleticism, high motor, and physical presence in the paint. Known for his rebounding ability and defensive instincts, he brings toughness and size to the Yellow Jackets' front-court.

    •    Jacquez Shuler – 7'1" Junior | Columbia, South Carolina

Standing at 7'1", Shuler was a major standout at the camp. His combination of length, versatility, and touch around the rim drew attention throughout the gym. A Columbia native, his return home is expected to energize the local fan base.

    •    Anthony "Tone" Hunter – 6'0" Senior | Las Vegas, Nevada

A veteran guard with strong leadership skills, Hunter showcased poise, playmaking, and scoring ability. His collegiate experience will be key in helping guide a young but talented roster this season.

    •    Ky'Den Mays – 6'7" Freshman | Atlanta, Georgia

The youngest of the group, Mays displayed great maturity and versatility at the camp. A smooth scorer and instinctive defender, the Atlanta native is expected to contribute early and develop quickly within Coach Whittler's system.

Turning the Page: A New Chapter Begins

This year's camp participation comes at a pivotal time for the Allen University men's basketball program, as newly appointed Head Coach Douglas Whittler prepares for his first season at the helm - the program is focused on a fresh start and a renewed commitment to building a winning culture.

"We're excited about the new additions that will be joining the AU family and look for big things this year from these talented student-athletes," said Coach Whittler. "Our program is hungry to not just participate this season but develop a winning culture that all of AU can be proud of."

And the excitement is growing. Whispers about Allen University's new additions spread quickly throughout the gym at the NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp, drawing notable attention—especially toward the imposing front-court duo of Jacquez Shuler and Blair Crutcher.

Eyes on the East First

As the Yellow Jackets gear up for a challenging season in the always-competitive SIAC East Division, the arrival of these four standouts—along with other key newcomers and a focused experienced coaching staff—has already begun to reshape the narrative surrounding AU basketball.

Coach Whittler acknowledged that the road ahead won't be without its challenges, but the foundation is being set for immediate success—and long-term momentum. With a renewed sense of purpose, discipline, and relentless effort, Allen University's men's basketball program is poised to make noise this season. And if the NBPA HBCU Top 50 Camp was any indication… the best is yet to come.
