MOBILE, Ala. — The Allen University men's basketball team delivered a poised and complete performance on the road Saturday afternoon, defeating Spring Hill College 82–74 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center behind balanced scoring, efficient execution, and key contributions across the roster.
Allen set the tone early, jumping out to a 37–29 halftime lead before matching Spring Hill's second-half surge point for point to secure the eight-point victory. The Yellow Jackets shot 41.3% from the field and were especially effective at the free-throw line, converting 25 of 27 attempts (92.6%), a decisive factor in maintaining control down the stretch.
The win comes on the heels of national recognition, as the Yellow Jackets were named the HBCU All-Star Game NCAA Division II SIAC Team of the Week just days earlier after their past victory over Benedict, further validating the program's upward momentum and consistent play.
Leading the offensive charge was Julian McGowan, who poured in a game-high 22 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting, while adding 7 rebounds and a strong presence. Jaren Phillips followed with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers to stretch the defense and spark Allen's perimeter attack.
Senior guard Ashton Henderson and forward Shadale Knight each contributed 12 points, providing steady scoring and composure throughout both halves. Knight also added 9 assist, controlling tempo all evening. Jacquez Shuler pulled down a game high 11 rebounds in the night helping Allen win the battle on the glass 42–34.
Off the bench, Sterling Blakely supplied a valuable spark with 10 points in just eight minutes, giving the Yellow Jackets an offensive boost and helping maintain momentum when the starters rotated out.
Defensively, Allen forced key stops late while limiting Spring Hill to 40% shooting overall. The Yellow Jackets also held the Badgers without a lead change all game, maintaining control from opening tip to final buzzer.
With the road win, national recognition, and continued balanced production, Allen showcased its depth, efficiency, and resilience — a combination that continues to define a team determined to compete until the final horn every night.
