Columbia, SC - In a game that had all the ingredients of a classic, the Allen University Yellow Jackets men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the Lane College Dragons in a high-level SIAC showdown that came down to the final possession. Despite a valiant effort in front of a packed John Hurst Adams Gymnasium, Allen came up just short, falling 84–83 in a heartbreaker that had the crowd on edge from tip to final horn.
After a statement victory in their season home opener, Head Coach Douglas Whittler's squad once again showed flashes of brilliance, intensity, and chemistry—despite being short-handed at the guard position. "Right now, we have to learn how to finish games," said Coach Whittler after the game. "We're a little depleted at the guard position due to injuries, but it's still my job to find ways to win. The available guys are doing the best they can, but we must be a little more resilient the last 5 minutes of the game when it's winning time."
Standout Performances
The Yellow Jackets had five players in double figures, led by the dominant presence of Jordahn Johnson, who once again set the tone in the paint with 19 points (8-10 FG) and 11 rebounds.
High-flying freshman Ky'Den Mays continued his early-season tear, scoring 18 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and showcasing his athleticism with crowd-erupting finishes in transition.
Guard Shadale Knight played a marathon 40 minutes, contributing 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and anchoring the offense during crucial stretches.
Sophomore guard Naji Wright added a solid 9 points, while freshman CJ Winters chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds, and a pair of steals in a gritty two-way performance.
Versatile forward Jacquez Shuler added 5 points and a team-high 7 rebounds, continuing to provide toughness and hustle.
