WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- In his first collegiate meet, freshman Jamarri Norman secured a first place finish in the long jump to lead Allen's season-opening efforts Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational.
Norman, a Calhoun Falls, South Carolina native, lept a distance of 6.71m to finish ahead of a field of 38 competitors from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA institutions. He also added a tenth place finish in the 60m hurdles prelims at a time of 8.86 to close out his afternoon.
Allen also saw five other Yellow Jackets finish in the top 10 of their respective events in the team's first indoor meet of the 2025 season. In the 400m, Ronderius Gary finished second with a time of 53.07. In both the shot put and weight throw,
Jhyrique Mangum came in fourth place. Later in the triple jump, Omariun Key logged a distance of 13.00m to finish in seventh place. Finally in the 800m,
Tyrone Higgins secured tenth place with a time of 2:15.41.
Allen returns to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for their next meet, the JDL Flat is Fast Invitational, on Sunday, January 26.
