SAVANNAH, G.A. --- With each of their regular seasons concluded, Allen men's and women's basketball now sets their sights onto the postseason with the SIAC Tournament. The first round games for the Yellow Jackets begin Tuesday, March 5 as Coach LaToya Jones and the women's team takes on Tuskegee at noon. Then, Coach Shawn Walker and the men's team will take the floor later Tuesday night against Lane College with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Allen women's basketball completed their first season under Coach Jones' leadership amassing 12 wins and a winning record at home, finishing (7-5) at John Hurst Adams Gymnasium. Also, for the first time since joining the SIAC, Allen swept rival Benedict for the first time winning each of the two meetings. The Yellow Jackets were led by senior
Kash Hankerson who averaged a team-best 11.8 points per game. Forwards
JuJu Harrington and
Talayah Boxley led Allen in rebounding, averaging 6.1 and 5.9 rebounds per game, respectivley. The Yellow Jackets closed the regular season on a strong note, winning six of their last seven games.Â
Meanwhile, Allen men's basketball also found great success under Walker in his first season at the helm. Allen won 14 games in the 2023-24 regular season, their most in a single-season since the 2019-20 season and the most in Allen's NCAA era. Prior to Walker's arrival, the Yellow Jackets had won a combined 10 games in the two previous seasons. Walker's "move the cheese" mantra saw Allen win double-digit SIAC contests (10) and earn the first ranked-win of the NCAA era on February 17 when Allen defeated No. 20 Benedict, 72-62.
G'Shan Aldridge led Allen with 9.2 points per game and
Tyriq McAdoo was first on the squad with 6.8 rebounds per contest.Â
