WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Allen University men's indoor track and field team opened their season this past weekend with a pair of events at the JDL Fast Track Kickoff Classic.
Zalyn Myers led the sprinters finishing in 6th place overall (2nd among D-2) in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 6.9 seconds while
Jaylen Patterson came in 28th in 7.28 seconds.
In the men's 60 meter hurdles, Allen was led by freshmen
Jayden Dunn and Alijah Maddox as they came in 18th and 21st place out of 35 with times of 8.9 and 9 seconds respectively.
In the men's 200 meters, freshman Jamari Lewis led the team finishing in 26th place out of 64 in 23.5 seconds while Patterson also ran a time of 24.3 seconds. In the 400 meters, freshman
Sean Brown placed a quality 13th place out of 57 in 52.5 seconds while freshman teammate Zechariah Addison was 24th in 53 seconds. Senior
Deyandre Ruffin ran a time of 54.3 seconds in the 400 as well.
In the 600 meters, sophomore
Zion Smart finished 17th out of 25 in 1:31.9 while freshman
Bryant Simpson was 15th out of 22 in the 800 meters in a time of 2:10. Then, in the Long Jump, Allen was led by sophomore
Jamavie Glover mark of 5.3 meters to place 39th while Brown jumped a mark of 5.1 meters.
On Sunday in the Early Bird Invite, Allen was led by Myers again in the 60 meter dash finishing in 15th place in 7 seconds while Lewis was 32nd in 7.37 seconds. In the 60 meter hurdles, Dunn came in an impressive 9th overall in 8.7 seconds, as he just missed the last spot to qualify for finals, while sophomore teammate
Jabari Moss finished 15th out of 32 runners in 9 seconds.
In the 400 meters, freshman
Jamar Knight made his debut running a time of 1:08 to finish 57th while Moss finished a respectable 21st in the 600 meter run in a time of 1:34. Simpson then placed 14th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:12 while Addison came in right behind in 18th place with a time of 2:19.
Finally, in the High Jump, Simpson went on to place 13th out of 20 with a mark of 1.85 meters.
The men will next be in action in January wen they take part in the USC Gamecock Invitational on Jan. 13 at 9:00 am in Columbia.
