Box Score ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - The Allen University men's basketball team fell 62-52 to Bloomfield College (NJ) on Friday in the first round of the HBCU Classic, hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands.
Senior forward
Tyriq McAdoo led Allen with another double-double, his third of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds with a steal but AU struggled to shoot the ball on this day finishing 36.7 percent from the floor overall while making three treys and only going 5 of 8 from the free throw line.
The AU defense, however, played very well holding the Bears of Bloomfield College to just 33 percent shooting for the game and only 26 percent from long-range. The difference in the game came at the free-throw line as BC made 18 free throws and tripled the amount of attempts than the Yellowjackets. Bloomfield also made three more treys than AU.
Bloomfield led by just a point at halftime, 25-24 but went on to outscore the Jacket men 37-28 in the second half as Allen could only climb within four points in the half. Senior guard
Austin James finished with 8 points, 2 boards, an assist and a block while fellow shooting guard
Malik Lacewell had 7 points, an assist and a steal.
Sophomore forward
Nakia Johnson, Jr. also blocked three shots along with 5 points and two rebounds while Junior wing
Jordan Edmond played well defensively also as he scored 6 points along with 3 boards, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Junior point guard
G'Shan Aldridge finished with four points, five rebounds and a team-best 3 assists. Fellow sophomore guards
Mike Best and
Peyton Weathersby also combined for 10 points with Best adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Allen will next play in Saturday's consolation game against either West VA State or Fort Lauderdale (FL) at a time TBA. Those two schools played later on Friday.
