BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. --
David Wright III threw four touchdown passes to help Allen University hold off Columbus State Football Club for a 32-25 win during Homecoming 2021 on Saturday afternoon at Westwood High School Stadium.
Wright completed 23-of-31 pass attempts for 273 yards that indluded two touchdown passes of 10 yards to
Jamal Jones, a 43-yard score to
Julius Pearson and a 33-yard strike to
Montrell White.
Wright also recorded 11 carries for a game high 104 rushing yards (9.5 avg.).
Jones collected eight receptions for 79 yards, Pearson had four receptions for 65 yards and White hauled in three catches for 53 yards.Â
Beau Herrington rushed for 88 yards on 16 carries (5.5 avg) and scored on a 20-yard run to give AU (4-4) a 7-0 lead.Â
The Yellow Jackets led 26-6 at halftime.
On defense, AU forced two turnovers and collected six sacks.
Kerry Thompson led the field with three sacks, four solo tackles and four quarterback hurries.Â
Gary Bourrage finished with a game high 10 tackles and added one sack.
Kylan Pugh and
Julius Pearson finished with one interception apiece. Pugh's interception sealed the game with under three minutes remaining.Â
COLST (5-2) were led by wide receiver Cameron Paulding. Paulding finished with three receptions for 76 yards and three touchdowns.
Keyshawn Early completed 13-of-26 pass attempts for 112 yards and two touchdowns.Â
Malique Frazier added five receptions for 31 yards and threw a 52-yard touchdown to Paulding.
The Cougars scored 19 points in the second half and closed the gap when Early scored on a 14-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game.Â
Early rushed for a team high 65 yards on 15 carries (4.1 avg.).
COLST retrieved the onside kick on the following kickoff but turned the ball over downs before throwing an interception on its final drive.
Ja'Mon Height and Javaun Wooded each had nine tackles. Wooden and Jalan Earvin each shared a sack. Â
