Yellow Jackets Unable to Overcome Tigers in SIAC Series

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Allen University softball team fell in a three-game SIAC series at Benedict over the span of two days. In a doubleheader Saturday, Allen lost game one, 8-0 in five innings, and game two, 10-2 in five innings. In the series finale on Sunday, Allen came close to completing a comeback but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 9-8.

GAME ONE:
To begin the series, freshman Jeramyah Adams connected on a first inning single to centerfield. Later in the fourth, Alaina Harvey reached on fielding error by Benedict.

In the circle, Harvey struck out two Tigers across her three innings of relief. She also held Benedict to one hit over the game's final three frames.

GAME TWO:
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader opened with fireworks for the Yellow Jackets. Following a single from Adams in the first inning, Harvey stepped up and connected on her third home run of the season to left field that gave Allen the early lead, 2-0. Allen's third hit of the game came in the second inning as Kasiyah Byrd singled to centerfield.

In addition to her base hit, Adams also stole a base in Saturday's effort. In the circle, freshman Tylar Crawford recorded three strikeouts.

GAME THREE:
In the most competitive game of the weekend, Allen again found early offensive success. In the first inning, Destiny Breton delivered a double to right field. In the next at-bat, Harvey singled to right to score Breton and put Allen ahead, 1-0. Later in the fourth, with Benedict leading 6-1, the Yellow Jackets began their comeback campaign with a four-run frame. After back-to-back fielding errors to begin the inning put Breton and Harvey on base, Byrd brought them both home with an RBI single to centerfield. After Raevyn Thomas followed that up with a single to load the bases, Tania Shoulders drove in two more Allen runs with an RBI hit to left field.

Then in the fifth inning, Adams led off the frame with a single and advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. That set up Breton with an RBI opportunity and the sophomore delivered with an RBI single to centerfield.

Finally in the seventh, Allen tied the game, 8-8, with a two-run inning. With two runners in scoring position, Zoe Thompson lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Brionna King. In the next at-bat, Byrd drove in her third run of the day, and sixth run of the season, with an RBI single to centerfield.

In the circle, Harvey struck out a career-high six batters across her 6.1 innings of action.

UP NEXT:
Allen concludes their 2025 season with a three-game homestand against Albany State. The series begins with a doubleheader Friday, April 18 with game one scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. The series will conclude Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m.
