COLUMBIA, S.C. --- With a pair of victories Saturday, the Allen University softball team made history as their series win marks the first SIAC three-game series that the Yellow Jackets have won since joining the league in 2023. Allen defeated Clark Atlanta in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 8-4. Later, the Yellow Jackets run-ruled the Panthers, 12-3, in five innings.
GAME ONE:
Allen took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after
Elissa Rich lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Tylar Crawford. CAU tied the game in the top of the second inning, but the Yellow Jackets would quickly regain their lead with a three-run frame in their half of the second. Crawford drew a bases loaded walk, followed by
Destiny Breton connecting on an RBI single to go ahead, 3-1. Allen's fourth run came home on a fielding error by Clark Atlanta.
In the third,
Brionna King scored on an RBI groundout from
Raevyn Thomas. Then in the fourth, back-to-back doubles from
Alaina Harvey and Breton extended Allen's lead to six runs, 7-1. The Yellow Jackets' final run of the game scored in the eighth inning after
Jeramyah Adams singled to bring home
Tania Shoulders.
Harvey and Adams each recorded multi-hit performances in the win as the Yellow Jackets totaled nine hits as a team.
In the circle, Rich matched her single-game career-high with 14 strikeouts in a complete game effort.
GAME TWO:
The Yellow Jackets took the same approach in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and once again found offensive success in the early innings. After Rich struck out three CAU batters in the top of the first, Allen followed that up with a pair of runs scoring on a RBI double from
Zoe Thompson and an RBI single from King. Ahead by two runs, 2-0, the Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the third as Rich scored on an RBI groundout from Thompson.
Allen overwhelmed Clark Atlanta in the fourth inning, scoring nine runs on six hits. After Shoulders drew a leadoff walk, Adams doubled to left field to push Allen back in front, 4-3. The scoring continued with an RBI single from
Sarah Henry and an RBI triple from Breton. Both Henry and Breton would later score on fielding errors by CAU. Then, Shoulders lifted an RBI double to left centerfield, followed by an RBI single from Adams that scored a pair of runs. The ninth and final run of the frame for Allen came from Adams coming home on a passed ball.
Rich, Adams, and Henry all tallied multi-hit performances to aid Allen's effort, with both Adams and Henry also adding a multi-RBI game to their season totals.
Once again in the circle was Rich who struck out five over her five innings of work to earn her second win of the day, and third of the season.
