SAVANNAH, G.A. --- The Allen University softball team was defeated at Savannah State in a three-game series across two days. In a doubleheader Saturday, Allen lost game one, 10-3, and game two, 12-4 in five innings. As the series concluded Sunday, Allen fell 15-0 in five innings.
GAME ONE:
In the first game of the doubleheader, Allen plated their first two runs in the fifth inning. After
Brionna King connected on a two-out single and stole second base,
Jeramyah Adams brought King home with an RBI double to right field. In the next at-bat,
Tania Shoulders singled to centerfield to score Adams. Later in the sixth,
Elissa Rich scored from third base on a fielder's choice.
In the circle, Rich struck out eight batters across six innings.
GAME TWO:
In the second game Saturday, the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning off of three hits. Shoulders and
Alaina Harvey led off the frame with singles to put runners on the corners. The duo then each stole a base to put Allen on the scoreboard. With Harvey at second, King drove an RBI single to right field to bring home Harvey. Allen continued their offensive efforts in the fifth inning as
Tylar Crawford crushed an RBI triple to right field, marking the first triple of her freshman season. The fourth run of the game for Allen scored on a fielding error by the SSU pitcher.
GAME THREE:
In the final game of the series, Harvey connected on a single, Shoulders and
Zoe Thompson each drew walks, and Crawford was hit by a pitch as Allen reached base four times.
UP NEXT:
Allen returns home to host Edward Waters for a three-game series. A doubleheader will be played Friday, April 4 with game one beginning at 3:00 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday, April 5 with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
