HOOVER, A.L. --- The Allen University softball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday at the second day of the SIAC Crossover in Hoover, Alabama. In their first game of the day, Allen fell to Miles, 14-5, in five innings. Then in the afternoon, Allen was defeated by Lane, 13-2, in five innings.
GAMES ONE VS MILES:
The Yellow Jackets scored their first run of the game in the first inning, as
Tania Shoulders came home on a wild pitch.
Later in the third, Shoulders doubled to left field and then stole third base with
Tylar Crawford at-the-plate. Crawford lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Shoulders.
In the fifth inning,
Sarah Henry led off the frame with a hit-by-pitch. Ta'Keyvia Sims singled to left field, and Shoulders drew a walk to load the bases for
Tylar Crawford. The freshman singled through the right side to score Sims, followed by an RBI single from
Elissa Rich.
Shoulders reached base each of her three trips to the plate and Rich notched a mulit-hit performance going 2-3 with an RBI to lead Allen's offensive efforts.
GAME TWO VS LANE:
Allen jumped on the scoreboard early in their second game of the day with a two-run first inning against Lane. A pair of singles from Crawford and
Alaina Harvey, plus a passed ball, put two runners in scoring position for
Brionna King. The junior infielder drove a two RBI single up the middle to give the Yellow Jackets the early advantage.
However, over the next three innings, the Lane offense found success to overcome their early deficit and win the game.
Harvey and Henry each had multi-hit games as Allen collectively totaled 10 hits against the Dragons.
