ATLANTA, G.A. --- The Allen University women's basketball team was defeated Thursday evening at Clark Atlanta, 63-58.
Allen quickly turned a five-point lead at the end of a closely contested first quarter, 18-13, into a double-digit advantage in the second quarter. Over the final seven minutes of the first half, the Yellow Jackets went on a 15-7 run to take a 39-24 lead into the half. Out of the break, Clark Atlanta managed to slightly cut into Allen's lead, 49-37, and limited the Yellow Jackets to shoot 3-for-13 from the floor in the third quarter. In the fourth, Allen was unable to hold off the Panthers offense and the game became tied, 55-55, with three minutes remaining. To close out the contest, Clark Atlanta scored eight of the game's final thirteen points to defeat Allen.
For the second straight game, both
Sadie Williams and
Peighton Jambor recorded double-doubles for Allen. Williams, a fifth-year guard, led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points to pair with 11 rebounds. Jambor, a sophomore forward, pulled down a team-best 15 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Additionally,
Taliah Wesley added 12 points, and
Eboni Clay scored 11 in Thursday's effort.
Allen's next game will take place on Saturday, February 22 at Benedict College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at HRC Arena.
