ALBANY, G.A. --- Forward
Peighton Jambor and guard
Sadie Williams each recorded double-doubles Monday as the Allen University women's basketball team defeated Albany State, 58-52, to win their third consecutive SIAC contest.
A low-scoring start saw Allen trailing at the end of the first quarter, 8-9. In the second, Allen saw Jambor, Williams,
Taliah Wesley, and
Mya Johnson all sink shots to stay within one point of Albany State's lead at halftime, 21-20. Although the Yellow Jackets trailed at the end of each of the first two quarters, a second-half surge would flip the scoreboard into their favor for the remainder of the night. Allen outscored ASU by three, 14-11, in the third to take a three-point advantage into the fourth quarter. As the two SIAC foes kept within single digits of each other over the final 10 minutes of action, a jump shot from Jambor with three minutes remaining pushed Allen ahead for the final time, 46-45. The Yellow Jackets closed out the game by outscoring the Golden Rams by five points,12-7.
Williams co-led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points, along with Wesley, to pair with 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jambor posted a performance of 10 points and 14 rebounds to record the sophomore's second double-double this season. The fourth Yellow Jacket to score double-figures Monday was freshman guard
Eboni Clay with 10 points. It marks the third straight game that Clay has scored double digits, and her fourteenth game of her debut season.
Allen continues their six-game road trip on Thursday, February 20 at Clark Atlanta. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
