Pembroke, NC - The Allen University Men's Wrestling Team took the mat in Pembroke, NC this past weekend and walked away with a program-defining performance at the PJ Smith Pembroke Open—an individual-style tournament stacked with regional and nationally ranked talent. Led by Jerrel Baskins, Torrance Adkins, and Zahmier Baldwin, the Yellow Jackets showed they're building something special on the men's side as well.
Baskins Makes History With Third-Place Finish
Junior standout Jerrel Baskins became the highest-placing wrestler in Allen Men's Wrestling history, securing 3rd place with grit and control. His lone loss came in a hard-fought decision against the 13th-ranked wrestler in the nation, showcasing that Baskins is not just regional—he's ready for the national stage.
"Jerrel's performance speaks volumes," said Head Coach Eric Pack. "He went toe-to-toe with nationally ranked talent and walked out with his head high. He's setting the bar."
True Freshman Adkins and Sophomore Zahmier Baldwin Stuns Field
First-year athlete Torrance Adkins sent a message to the region—and beyond—as he reached the third and fourth place match, representing the highest finish for a true freshmen in program history.
Rather than face off in a teammate vs. teammate match against Zahmier Baldwin who placed, Coach Pack made the call for a double forfeit, prioritizing program unity and long-term development over medals.
"They've earned their respect early," Coach Pack added. "Adkins and Baldwin are the real deal."
More Podium Power
- Quincy Gash claimed 5th place, continuing his consistent climb up the leaderboard.
- Langston Blakley rounded out Allen's top performers with a 6th place finish, giving the program five total top-six placements—a first for Allen Men's Wrestling.
Additional Match Winners Show Depth of Program
Beyond the podium finishes, multiple wrestlers earned key victories, highlighting the increasing depth and grit of the Yellow Jackets roster:
- Canon Long
- Hunter Borts
- Jeanarion Kamba
- Malachi Thomas
- Norikus Cowan
These performances demonstrate that Allen's foundation is no longer just potential—it's becoming production.
The Hive Is Building Something Special
As Coach Pack continues to shape both the women's and men's squads into regional contenders, the success at Pembroke Open serves as another milestone for a program on the rise.
With freshmen stepping up, veterans like Baskins leading by example, and depth blossoming, it's becoming clear that Allen University Wrestling is on the map—and here to stay.
