COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Behind the career-best performances of both
Peighton Jambor and
Taliah Wesley, the Allen University women's basketball team defeated in-state foe Claflin Wednesday, 78-62.
After taking a three-point advantage, 13-10, through the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets found an offensive rhythm in the second quarter and outscored the Panthers, 25-17. Allen's offensive showcase in the second including sinking four three-pointers, including a pair from Jambor. The freshman forward tallied nine points and a team-leading nine rebounds heading into the break. In addition to Jambor's first half efforts, Wesley totaled 15 points while shooting 70% from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action. Coming out of the half ahead 38-27, the Yellow Jackets never relinquished their lead through the third and fourth quarters and held Claflin to just four second-chance points throughout the game. Allen also forced the Panthers to commit 21 turnovers, which the Yellow jackets turned into 19 points.
Wesley closed out the night as Allen's leading scorer with a career-high 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Jambor posted the first double-double of her freshman season with career-bests of 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and 18 rebounds. Joining Wesley and Jambor as a double-digit scorer was freshman guard
Eboni Clay who finished with 14 points and dished out a career-high eight assists.
Allen will have a nine day hiatus from competition as their scheduled contest at Clark Atlanta this Saturday, January 10, has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather until February 5. The next time the Yellow Jackets will take the floor will be on Saturday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m. against Albany State. Tip-off inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
