COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Allen University women's basketball team was defeated at home on Saturday by Central State, 72-58.
Despite a strong start, where Allen outscored CSU 18-12 in the first quarter, the Marauders trimmed the Yellow Jackets' lead down to two points entering halftime, 31-29. Towards the end of the third quarter, Central State once again found their offensive rhythm and took a 53-49 advantage into the fourth quarter. Allen was able to bring themselves within four points, 61-57, with 4:35 remaining, however CSU rebuilt their lead to close out the contest.
Taliah Wesley led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points. Joining Wesley in double-figures was freshman forward
Peighton Jambor with 11 points and a co-team-best seven rebounds off-the-bench, and freshman guard
Morgan Smith, who tallied 10 points in Saturday's effort.
Kacey Smith also grabbed seven rebounds against the Marauders.
Allen remains at home for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, January 8 against Claflin. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
