COLUMBIA, S.C. --- In her first game of the season, junior forward
Talayah Boxley finished with 12 points and seven rebounds to help lead Allen past Kentucky State Thursday night, 63-58.
After a back-and-forth first quarter,
Taliah Wesley connected on a layup with 7:11 to play in the first half to give Allen a one-point lead, 15-14. It would be an advantage that Allen never let go of as the Yellow Jackets did not trail at any point for the remainder of the game. Allen outscored the Thoroughbreds in the second quarter, 21-14, to take a 30-26 lead into the half. Although KSU would battle back in the second half and tie the game on two occasions, Allen held on to secure their eighth win of the season.
Wesley led the Yellow Jackets with a performance of 22 points and 10 rebounds to mark her third double-double of the season, and her ninth game scoring double figures.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, January 4th as they host Central State. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
