COLUMBIA, S.C. --- After never trailing at any point, the Allen University women's basketball team defeated Fort Valley State Monday afternoon, 71-62.
Freshman guard
Eboni Clay opened the day for Allen with a left wing jump shot to give the Yellow Jackets an early 2-0 lead. From there, Allen went to build a 19-11 advantage in the first quarter after made shots from
Nari Coe,
Taliah Wesley,
Kacey Smith,
JuJu Harrington, and
Amoni Byrd. Into the second quarter, FVSU closed the gap, but Allen withstood their efforts and took a 38-27 lead into the locker rooms for half. Through the first half, Wesley led all scorers with 12 points to pair with a game-high six rebounds. The second half was even for both squads, with each scoring 33 points, as Allen secured their eleventh win of the season.
Wesley finished the day with 16 points, five assists, and four steals.
Eboni Clay and
Kacey Smith each finished with nine points in the victory, with Smith adding six rebounds to her efforts.
The Yellow Jackets continue their five-game home stand on Saturday, January 25 against Savannah State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
