COLUMBIA, S.C. --- In a matchup of two of the top teams in the SIAC standings, the Allen University women's basketball team was unable to overcome Edward Waters Monday night, falling 80-70.
A back-and-forth first quarter saw the Yellow Jackets take a 17-15 lead following a pair of free throws from
Nari Coe to close out the period. In the second, Edward Waters proved to be a formidable foe as they outscored the Yellow Jackets by fifteen points, 30-15, to build a 45-32 halftime lead over Allen. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap in the third quarter and drew within 10 points of the Tigers advantage entering the fourth. However, both teams finished with 20 points in the fourth quarter as Allen was unable to push past the second quarter separation.
Senior guard
Taliah Wesley led Allen with 19 points to pair with seven rebounds.
Peighton Jambor contributed nine points and a team-leading eight rebounds in Monday's effort.
Mya Johnson also tallied nine points on 4-for-8 shooting with five rebounds against EWU.
Allen remains at home for their next contest on Saturday, February 1 as the Yellow Jackets host Benedict in the "Battle for Taylor Street". Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
