COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Despite a career-best 23 points from
Peyton Weathersby, the Allen University men's basketball team was unable to overcome Kentucky State Thursday and fell, 74-69.
A low scoring first-half saw the Yellow Jackets take a three-point advantage, 32-29, into the half. Out of the break, the two SIAC foes battled back-and-forth until KSU took a 64-61 lead with 4:12 left to play. From there, the Thoroughbreds built their lead to as many as seven points, but the Yellow Jackets did not give up as they cut their deficit down to two points with 37 seconds left. However, KSU scored the final five points of the contest en route to the win.
In addition to his scoring efforts, Weathersby also led the Yellow Jackets with six rebounds. He was joined in double-figures by freshman
Hunter Johnson, who finished with a season-best 12 points in 20 minutes off-the-bench.
Allen returns to action on Saturday, January 4 at 5:30 p.m. to host Central State University.
