COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Allen University's women's soccer team outshot Albany State Saturday, 20-11, but ultimately fell to the Golden Rams, 5-1.
The Yellow Jackets' offense tested Albany State's keeper early and often in the first half, taking 11 shots through the first 45 minutes, including six shots from
Tatyana Machado. But, it was Machado's assist that gave Allen their only goal as
Sara Duque Castano found the back of the net in the 30th minute, to tie the match at 1-1. Albany State put away two additional goals before the break and led at half, 3-1.
Later in the second half, Allen continued to create chances for themselves in the final third as the Yellow Jackets put seven of their nine second-half shots on target. However, ASU's keeper kept Allen's shots out of goal and the Golden Rams' offense added scores in the 78th and 85th minutes to secure the victory.
In the 78th minute of the match, Allen's
Tahlia Brooks was issued a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity on a slide tackle near the box. Brooks will be suspended for Allen's next match.
Allen travels to Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. for a 5:00 p.m. match Wednesday, September 18.
