COLUMBIA, S.C --- Despite trailing early, Allen softball did not go down without a late rally, but ultimately fell short to Fort Valley State Sunday, 10-3.
FVSU took a six run lead through the first two innings. The Yellow Jackets brought across their first run of the game in the sixth inning as
Anjellet Corner scored from third base on a wild pitch. Later in the seventh inning, trailing 10-1, Allen had runners at first and second base as
Tania Shoulders when a single to left field. As the hit landed, it took a bounce off the FVSU outfielder's glove and rolled to the fence, allowing both
Elissa Rich and
Zykhia Crisler to score and cut into the Wildcats' lead, 10-3. However, Allen's late rally would end there as FVSU got the third out of the inning in the next at-bat to end the contest and win the game.
The pitching combination of Rich and Naziha Alfrid combined to strikeout three FVSU batters in Sunday's effort.
