COLUMBIA, S.C. --- In their second to last SIAC series of the season, Allen softball was unable to power past the strong offensive performances from Fort Valley State in Saturday's doubleheader, dropping game one in five innings, 10-2, and later game two in five innings, 17-0.
GAME 1:
The Yellow Jackets found success early-on Saturday, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning to tie the game, 2-2. With
Tania Shoulders standing at second, and
Elissa Rich occupying first,
Zykhia Crisler bashed a double off the right field fence to bring home both runners. The extra-base hit marked the third time this season that Crisler, an Orlando, Florida native, has doubled.
In the circle, Rich struck out five FVSU batters across her five innings of work. Saturday's effort raised Rich's season strikeout total to 109 punchouts, which is a freshman single-season program record.
GAME 2:
A nine-run first inning from the Wildcats proved to be too much for Allen to overcome in game two of Saturday's doubleheader as the Yellow Jackets fell, 17-0. Allen tallied four hits in game two of the series as
Zariyah Stripling,
Destiny Breton,
Jada Sanders, and
Ta'Keviya Sims each reached base in the loss.
