SAVANNAH, G.A. --- In a rescheduled game from February 24, Allen scored double-digit runs for the second time this season but ultimately fell at Savannah State Thursday, 14-12.
The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the first inning, one on a popout and a second on a fielder's choice, to tie the game. Later in the second inning,
Zariyah Stripling scored on a passed ball to cut into SSU's lead, 4-3. Allen's offense exploded in the fifth inning with a seven run frame. Allen managed to capitalize on multiple Savannah State mistakes as the Yellow Jackets scored five runs on a wild pitch, a fielding error, and two fielder's choices. Allen brought in two additional runs on an RBI double to left center from
Alaina Harvey. Through five frames, Allen led 10-5.
In the next inning,
Zykhia Crisler tripled to right center to score
Tania Shoulders and push Allen ahead, 11-8. However, SSU plated six runs in the top of the seventh and Allen was only able to score once in the bottom half of the inning on a throwing error, as the Tigers came back for the win.
Harvey led the way for Allen with three RBIs, bringing her season total to 23 in her freshman campaign.
The Yellow Jackets return home to MLK Park Saturday, April 6 for an SIAC doubleheader against Fort Valley State. First pitch in game one of the series is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
