Allen Picks Up First Win in Doubleheader Split with Clark Atlanta

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Elissa Rich hit her first two home runs of the season to help lead Allen softball to their first victory of the season Friday, as the Yellow Jackets split a doubleheader against Clark Atlanta, falling in game two of the series, 7-4 in 10 innings, but emerging victorious in game three, 3-2.

GAME 1:
Rich gave Allen an early 1-0 lead with her first home run of the day, and season, on a solo blast to centerfield in the second inning. Then, after Clark Atlanta tied the game in the top of the third inning, Allen responded in the bottom half of the frame as Destiny Breton connected on an RBI double, Zykhia Crisler lifted an RBI single, and Breton stole home to put the Yellow Jackets ahead, 4-1. However, CAU scored three runs in the top of the seventh to force extra-innings, and scored three additional runs in the 10th inning for the win.

GAME 2:
Once again, Allen found success in the beginning as Alaina Harvey bashed her second homer of the season to left field in the second inning. Later in the fourth, it was a "twice as nice" afternoon for Rich as she left hammered her second long ball of the day, giving Allen a 2-0 advantage. Although CAU scored two runs to tie the game in the fifth, the Yellow Jackets bounced-back right away as Rich doubled to center field to score Zakiyah Henderson and put Allen back in front, 3-2.

Rich also pitched a complete game, earning her first win of the season in the circle, as she struck out eight Clark Atlanta batters and allowed just three hits across her seven innings of work.

UP NEXT:
Allen travels to Hoover, AL at the Hoover Met Complex for the three-day SIAC Crossover event. The Yellow Jackets will face five teams during their time in Hoover, beginning Tuesday, March 12 at 12:15 p.m. against LeMoyne-Owen and then again at 4:45 versus Kentucky State.
