Allen Records Largest Comeback Win in Program History on Day One of SIAC Crossover

HOOVER, A.L. --- Allen softball split their first set of games Tuesday at the SIAC Crossover event in Hoover, Alabama. The Yellow Jackets set a program record in their game one win over LeMoyne-Owen, 17-15, with the largest comeback in program history. In the second game of the day, Allen's rally efforts fell short against Kentucky State, 16-8 (6 inn.).

GAME 1: Allen 17, LeMoyne-Owen 15

After trailing 11-0 in the first inning, Allen mounted the largest comeback in program history to rally and defeat the Magicians. The Yellow Jackets' comeback effort began in the bottom of the first as Zakiyah Henderson doubled through the right side to score a run, then Alaina Harvey followed that up with an RBI single to score Henderson. Then in the second, Allen plated seven runs on a trio of RBI doubles from Destiny Breton, Anjellet Corner, and Harvey, along with a fielding error from LMO to bring the Yellow Jackets within two runs of tying the game. In the third, Allen surged ahead, scoring three runs highlighted by Henderson connecting on her second double of the day to push Allen ahead, 12-11. LeMoyne-Owen responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to go back in front, 14-12, but the lead would be short lived as Breton bashed a ground-rule 2 RBI double to right center, Corner drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, and Harvey lifted a sacrifice-fly to left that gave Allen a 16-14 advantage. The Yellow Jackets scored a 17th and final run in the sixth inning on a throwing error from LMO. The 11-run deficit that Allen overcame marks the largest comeback victory in program history, and gives Allen their second win in four days.

Corner led Allen with 5 RBI in the victory, meanwhile Breton added 4 RBI while going 3-5 at-the-plate. In relief in the circle, Elissa Rich tallied a season-best 14 strikeouts among the 26 strikeouts she faced in 6.2 innings of work while allowing just a single earned run.

GAME 2: Kentucky State 16, Allen 8 (6 inn.)

Later Tuesday afternoon, Allen matched up against Kentucky State. The Thorobreds jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning, but once again the Yellow Jackets would not be discouraged as Allen scored one run in the second, and seven runs in the third to draw back within one, 9-8. The third inning saw Faith Robinson hammer a grand-slam, her fourth home run of the season. However, KSU added seven runs of their own over the next four innings for the run-rule decision.
