HOOVER, A.L. --- Allen softball came away victorious in one of their two contests on day two of the SIAC Crossover at the Hoover Met Complex in Hoover, AL Wednesday as the Yellow Jackets defeated Miles, 7-4, in the first game of the afternoon, but fell in the second game to Spring Hill, 10-2 (5 inn.).
GAME 1: Allen 7, Miles 4
The Yellow Jackets set the tone early in the first inning as lead-off batter Tania Shoulders drew a walk, then advanced to both second and third base on wild pitches. In the next at-bat, Destiny Breton singled to score Shoulders and give Allen the lead, 1-0. A double-steal from the Yellow Jackets saw Elissa Rich come home for Allen's second run of the afternoon. Miles was able to tie the game in the second with a pair of runs, but Allen bounced-back in the third, scoring five runs on three hits as Rich, Alaina Harvey each tallied an RBI and Zykhia Crisler drove in two runs on a single.Â
Breton, a freshman centerfielder, finished 2-4 at-the-plate with an RBI, recording her fifth multi-hit game this season, and fourth in her last five contests.Â
GAME 2: Spring Hill 10, Allen 2 (5 inn.)
Harvey homered in the second inning, her fourth long ball of the season, to score Allen's first run of the game. The Yellow Jackets followed that up later in the fifth as Shoulders drove an single to the outfield with the bases-loaded to score Crisler from third base, but it would not be enough as SHC's 10-2 advantage would go on to be final.Â
