COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Behind a complete team effort where every player scored, Allen women's basketball soared to their second largest victory of the season Wednesday, defeating Converse University, 80-48.
Allen set the tone for the night right from the jump, taking an 8-0 advantage through the first three minutes of action. It would be a lead they would never look back from as Allen never trailed at any point during Wednesday's victory. The strong start continued throughout the first half as the Yellow Jackets took a 41-17 lead into the break. Fast forward to the fourth quarter with eight minutes to play, and
Taliah Wesley sank a three-point shot to push Allen's lead to it's largest margin during the game at 36 points, 69-33. Overall, Allen shot 48.3% from the floor and 52.9% from three-point range while sinking 15 of their 21 free-throw attempts. Meanwhile, defensivley the Yellow Jackets held Converse to shoot just 24.3% on the night, including 14.8% from distance.
All eight Yellow Jackets who played Wednesday scored with
Kash Hankerson leading the charge with 21 points while making nine of 11 shot attempts, including three shots from the perimeter. For the fourth straight game, and 12th overall this season, Wesley dropped double-figures with 15 points in Wednesday's effort. Joining Hankerson and Wesley with a double-digit performance was
Victoria Zidor with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets hope their 32-point victory can carry momentum back into SIAC play as Allen travels to Albany State Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m.
