Robinson's Two Homers Not Enough Against Claflin

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Senior shortstop Faith Robinson bashed a pair of home runs Sunday, one in each contest, however, Allen softball fell to Claflin 9-4 in game one, and 16-3 in five innings in game two.

GAME 1:
Despite trailing 3-0 after the first inning, Allen would not be discouraged early on. In the bottom of the first, Anjellet Corner drove in Destiny Breton to score the Yellow Jackets' first run of the game. Later in the third, Breton scored on a throwing error from Claflin to bring Allen back within one run, 3-2. In the next at-bat, Robinson bashed her first home run of the season over the left field wall to tie the game at 3-3. Allen took their first lead of the day in the fourth on a home run from freshman Tania Shoulders to left field, going ahead 4-3. Although Allen finished the game out-hitting Claflin, 7-6, a six-run sixth inning from the Panthers pushed them to a 9-4 win.

In the circle, Alaina Harvey allowed just one hit through three innings in her first start of the season. Harvey also finished 2-3 at-the-plate. In relief action, Elissa Rich struck out a season-high seven batters through her four innings.

GAME 2:
Robinson continued her strong day offensively in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. In the bottom of the first inning, Robinson lifted her second homer of the day, and season, over the fence at MLK Park to cut into Claflin's lead, 3-2. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets managed to flip a pair of double plays through the five inning effort.

UP NEXT:
Allen will travel for the first time this season Tuesday, Feb. 13 for a doubleheader at Winston-Salem State University with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
