COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Behind a 27-point performance from Taliah Welsey and a 21-point showing from
Eboni Clay, the Allen University women's basketball team emerged victorious Saturday over Spring Hill, 76-61.
The Yellow Jackets never trailed in their third SIAC contest of the season, and a strong start in the first quarter helped set the tone for Allen's sixth win. After shooting 10-of-16 (62%) to start the game, including sinking 3-of-4 from three-point range, the Yellow Jackets jumped ahead to a 24-9 advantage after the opening quarter. Over the final three quarters, Allen helped to secure the victory by totaling 19 fast break points and grabbing 13 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second chance points.
In addition to her team-leading 27 points, Welsey recorded her second consecutive double-double by totaling a team-best 15 rebounds in the win. Both Wesley and Clay each shot 50% from the field.
Allen will be back in action on Monday, December 16 when the Yellow Jackets host Miles College for an SIAC clash. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
