CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- After overcoming a halftime deficit, the Allen University men's basketball team rallied to defeat Johnson C. Smith Wednesday night, 73-67.
Trailing at the break by one point, 34-33, the Yellow Jackets saw
Marc Raye Jr. knock down a quick jumper and two free throws to tie the game at 37-37 less than a minute into the second half. Raye's efforts continued two minutes later with two additional free throws to push Allen ahead, 41-39. It was a close battle throughout the second half, with neither team's lead exceeding four points until one minute remained in the game when
Hunter Johnson connected on a fastbreak layup through contact and sank his one free throw to help seal the victory for Allen.
Raye led all Allen scorers with 25 points, a performance that included making 9-of-10 free throws. Wednesday marked the third time in six games that the sophomore point guard has finished in double figures. The Yellow Jackets also saw the best performance of the season from senior guard
Noel Scott. The first year Yellow Jacket tallied 10 points and three rebounds in the win.
The Yellow Jackets return home on Saturday, December 14 at 4:00 p.m. to host Spring Hill in SIAC action inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
