COLUMBIA, SC --- The Allen University men's wrestling team overcame an early 11-0 deficit Tuesday night to defeat Emmanuel University, 24-22. Entering their second season in Conference Carolinas, the win marks Allen's first CC dual meet win of the season, and their fourth in program history.
A quartet of upperclassmen kicked-off Allen's comeback efforts, beginning with senior
Nyshaad Hannon, who secured a pinfall victory in 2:17 at 149. Hannon's win was the first of four straight victories for the Yellow Jackets as senior
Drevon Wallace secured a technical fall, 16-1, at 149, then junior
Quincy Gash earned a 7-2 decision win at 149, and later senior
Ya'Donnis Hardaway won by a 9-3 decision at 165. After the first five matches, Allen had taken the lead 17-11.
Emmanuel tied the dual at 17 with a fall victory at 174, but Jerrell Baskins earned a major decision win, 17-4, at 184 to give the Yellow Jackets back the lead at a critical time, 21-17.
With the dual approaching it's final moments, freshman
Sekou Bangoura made his collegiate debut a memorable one as he sealed the win for Allen with a sudden death victory, 8-5, that brought all fans inside of John Hurst Adams Gymnasium to their feet.
The Yellow Jackets will turn their attention to their first Conference Carolinas road trip of the season as Allen visits King University on December 3. The first match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Bristol, Tennessee.
