Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Behind the efforts of four players who finished in double-figures Tuesday, Allen University women's basketball pushed past Carolina University (NC), 84-70.
At the end of the first quarter, Allen trailed by one point, 17-16. However, the Yellow Jackets bounced-back in the second quarter by outscoring the Bruins by nine, 18-9, and holding Carolina to just two made baskets in the period. The Yellow Jackets took a 34-26 lead into the half.
The second half saw an outpouring of offense from Allen as the Yellow Jackets scored a combined 50 points across the third and fourth quarters. Allen shot 16-31 (51.6%) in the second-half, and made 16-of-20 free-throw attempts to build onto their lead and secure their second win of the early season.
For the second consecutive game, freshman guard
Morgan Smith finished as one of Allen's leading scorers with 14 points. Joining Smith with a team-best 14-point performance was senior guard
Mya Johnson. Freshman
Eboni Clay and senior
Nari Coe each added 10 points in the victory.
Peighton Jambor finished the night as Allen's leading rebounder with seven boards in 16 minutes of action.
The Yellow Jackets will travel for their first road contest of the season Thursday, November 14, to visit the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Bluffton, South Carolina.
