COLUMBIA, S.C. --- After dominating the first set Thursday evening, the Allen University volleyball team went on to defeat Johnson and Wales in straight sets (25-3, 25-22, 25-13).
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 10-point lead in the opening set before Johnson and Wales was able to score their first point inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium. Through Allen's first 10 points, junior setter
Zyara Harrision recorded three aces, and went on to finish the match with a career-high of four perfect serves to pair with a team-leading 16 assists. As a team, Allen tallied a season-best 12 aces in the win.Â
Taylor Lawrence and
Dazzalon Larkins led the Yellow Jackets with eight kills each, followed by
Maliyah Spencer with seven of her own. Lawrence and Larkins joined Harrison among the Yellow Jackets' top servers Thursday as they tallied three aces and two aces, respectively.Â
Defensively,
Myra Lopez reached double-digits in digs for the 15th time this season with 11. The Yellow Jackets held Johnson and Wales to a team hitting percentage of -.035 to secure their seventh win of the season.
Allen is back in action tomorrow, October 18, at Savannah State. First serve in Savannah, Georgia is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
